We enjoyed our weekend in Torquay despite a disappointing result at the West of England championships. This year we welcomed Tegen Davis and Richard Wilson who were competing at the areas with us for the first time. It was a hard test piece, so we had to work hard practising Dean Goffin's 'Rhapsody in Brass'. We were pleased with our performance, but unfortunately the adjudicators were less impressed and we came 16th out of 17th bands. After 3 years in the Second Section, we will be competing back in the Third Section next year.
We still had a great weekend, going for Chinese on Friday night and Indian on Saturday, and enjoyed the generous hospitality of Paul and Mike at the Westgate Hotel. It was also great to catch up with ex-training band member Paul Holley, who is now playing for our rivals Bodmin Town. Paul's day was rather more successful than ours - his band won the Second Section! Well done Paul - great news. Thanks to Ian and everyone in the band for the hard work on the test piece, and for making the weekend so enjoyable. Next we will be rehearsing a new concert programme ready for the summer season.
