Christmas season starts with well attended concert at Waterside

1 December 2013 We put on a festive concert for Hythe Rotary Club, mixing Christmassy numbers such as the Christmas Song, The Snowman and several Christmas carols with other popular pieces including All That Jazz, New York, New York and the Great Escape. The concert was well attended by the ladies and gentlemen of the Hythe and Dibden area, and raised money for several charities. More carol gigs to come this month!

Disappointing result at Wessex Contest

30 November 2013 Our run of good contesting results came to an end in Bournemouth, as while we were reasonably happy with our performance, it did not go down well with the adjudicator. Never mind - we were always going to encounter a less than inspiring result at some point. Chins up, and we will be working even harder out our test piece for the regional contest in March!

Successful Last Night of the Proms concert

19 October 2013 Our Last Night of the Proms evening went down well with a full house at Waterside Theatre. The training band gave only their second public performance ever, playing five pieces including Wallace and Gromit and the Great Escape. After a joint performance of Slaidburn, the senior band led the audience in an evening of patriotic flag waving, including music from around the UK, the Nabucco overture, and all the usual Proms favourites. The concert also featured vocal numbers from Ann and David Turner and Terry Scott and the Four Seasons.

A busy summer!

18 August 2013 We have been busy over the last few months, performing at Lymington (twice), Romsey, Fawley, Waterside Arts Festival, Netley Marsh Steam Rally, and Owslebury Horticultural Show, as well as Tim & Lauren Clarke's wedding (discovering that brass bands and bouncy castles do not mix...!). We are now practising for a Last Night of the Proms concert in October.

27 April 2013 A well attended concert in Hythe went really well! We played two very different sets of music - a fairly traditional first half including our regional test piece Hollywood, followed by a second half of big band arrangements. In between, the rapidly improving training band gave their first ever public performance. Well done!

11 March 2013 A great result in Torquay as we came sixth in our first contest as a third section band after promotion last year. We were drawn to play last out of 15 bands and put in a good performance of Hollywood, by Goff Richards. By finishing in the top half we comfortably retained our third section place, and will be in a good position in the grading table at the start of next year. Well done everybody! Afterwards, we celebrated in the traditional way with a curry.
