We competed at the Wessex Winter Contest in Bournemouth on Saturday. This year the draw was kinder to us and we didn't have such an early start. We enjoyed our performance of Oliver Waespi's 'The Graces of Love', and seem to have saved our best for the contest as the recording sounded much better than our rehearsals! We were really pleased with our overall placing of 8th, especially as we beat bands from the Championship Section and First Section. We were unlucky that many of the other Second Section bands did well too (4 Second Section bands in the top 8!) and so we did not quite manage to win a cup despite the vast number of trophies on offer.
The audio adjudication format of the contest again worked well for us and we received some really positive adjudicator commentary on our recording. Apparently he was "loving our shapes" and liked our "mature ensemble" sound (does he mean fat and old...??). Thanks to Ian and all the band for the hard work, and to Ali and Ian for some delicious food at the after-contest party. Now for a month of Christmas carols before we start rehearsing the next area test piece in the new year
