Wessex Brass Band Contest 2005

On the 3rd December, 2005, the band once again took part in the annual WBBA contest, once again held in Weymouth, Dorset. Following a good performance in 2004, we were this year promoted to the second section, which meant we didn't have to get up quite so early. Clearly, the lie-in did us good, as this time around, we were awarded second place for our interpretation of Dvorak's New World Symphony (yes, complete with the Hovis tune...). We actually received a trophy this year, which, as you'll see below, some of the band made took full advantage of.

The day was also memorable for us, as we finally got to collect and wear our new set of band jackets. Although the old grey M&S herringbone jackets had done us proud (even some of our audience used to wear similar jackets in support...), it was certainly time for us to upgrade to something more in keeping with our current image. Thus, black and green is the new grey.

Our new jackets, awaiting our collection.  Unwrapping the jackets
Our new jackets await collection. It's almost like Christmas has come early. Perhaps.

Mike with M&M  M&M, with moustache
Mike poses with an inflatable M&M. (Did I just type that?) It seems the M&M has now grown a moustache. I really don't want to know why.
Drinking...  ...and more drinking.
Drinking... ...and more drinking. Maybe that expalins the M&M thing.

We bagged a trophy! Roger Handley checks the fit of Mike's jacket. The trophy takes a celebratory carousel ride.
