Wessex Brass Band Association Contest - Poole 1/12/2001

Section 2. Test Piece : Les Preludes (Liszt). NFBB Result : 4th

Hmm. Fourth place. Again. Must be our lucky(?) number. Unfortunately, only three other bands entered from our section, leaving us in last. This cast a shadow over what was, in many ways, a real achievement for us. As a (nationally) fourth section band with a fair number of young and inexperienced players, a test piece with the difficulty of Les Preludes was always going to prove challenging. The fact that we stuck with it and turned in a performance that we could be proud of was in itself no small feat..

Despite the result, the band didn't go home entirely empty handed. Percussionist Jack Henderson was awarded a prize for being the youngest player in our section. Well done Jack.

Anyway, thanks must go to the following. Dennis and Malcolm, for being great deps. Ted, for his behind-the-scenes work with the back row. The back row themselves, for their 'overtime'. Our percussion section, making their public debut with the band. Mike, for doing the organisation stuff. And, most of all, to Jayne, for all of her efforts, on stage and off.

So here's the bit you've been waiting for. The photos.

Rehearsal in Poole Conservative Club

Blowing our hooters.

All done.

(Check out the clever camera angles that ensure our baritone minder (er, me) is rightfully obscured at all times. Full marks! Future photographers take note.)
