For our first concert of 2002, NFBB once again met up with the New Forest Big Band at the Waterside Theatre, Holbury. The format, now well established, saw both bands taking it in turns to provide the sizeable audience with a varied programme of music.
NFBB started our performance with a rousing version of Irving Berlin's "There's No Business Like Show Business" before continuing with a programme that included the march Barnard Castle, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, The Irish Blessing and the Can Can. A particular favourite with the audience was "Lord Of The Dance" - a selection of highlights from the dance show of the same name.
On this occasion, the band featured two solo items, both of which were well received. In the first half, Ian Wild played the tenor horn solo "Over The Rainbow". After the interval, 14 year old Adam Hield (living up to his Guestbook entry claims on this very site...) played the cornet solo "I don't know how to love Him", taken from Jesus Christ Superstar.
For the final item of the evening, both bands joined forces to play Hootenanny - something which has almost become a tradition now.
Thanks to Mike, Malcolm, Ken and all the other people that worked behind the scenes to make this concert possible.
