There are few players that can claim to have played with Black Dyke, but on 13th January our principal euphonium player, Reg Parkes, became one of them. As his son, baritone player Ian Parkes, describes "I emailed Black Dyke's secretary, Mike Shenton, and explained it that it was to be my dads birthday on the 16 December and asked, as a very special gift, whether it would be possible for him to play with the band. He replied, saying they would love to help out. So, we went to the Symphony Hall, Birmingham on the 13 January where Reg got to play euphonium during their rehearsal. He had the honour of meeting the whole band and was made to feel more then welcome. It's a day he will not forget."
